Diagnosing Diabetic Eye Disease
At Northern Vision Care, we use state-of-the-art technology to detect, diagnose, and treat various conditions related to diabetes. During your eye exam, we may include a few diagnostic tests to assess your eye health and pinpoint any early signs of diabetic eye disease.
3D Optical Coherence Tomography
Optical coherence tomography is a noninvasive imaging test that takes cross-sectional images of your retina, giving us a detailed look at its distinctive layers. These high-resolution images allow us to evaluate each layer’s thickness and detect abnormalities that could indicate early signs of disease.
Fundus Photography
Fundus photography is the process of taking high-resolution images of your retina through your pupil. We will likely dilate your pupils for this exam, in which case you will need a ride home, but we will be sure to let you know well before your appointment.
The tool we use is a specialized low-power microscope attached to a camera that will give us a clear view of the optic disc, retina, and lens.
